Do you get a closer shave by using a straight razor rather than a modern multi-blade?

In order to achieve a closer shave you need the right products and proper shaving techniques. You will achieve the same shave with a modern swivel-head razor or a straight razor as long as you know how to use one properly. If you decide to use a straight razor, we recommend that you invest some time and effort in learning how to use it from a professional barber

What are the skin properties of Lavender, Sandalwood and Lemon essential oils?

Lavender is distilled from the French flowering plant and has a sweet, fresh aroma. Its soothing, calming, healing, gently antiseptic qualities are recommended for sensitive skin.

Sandalwood comes from a tree found in India with a woodsy, very masculine aroma, reputedly aphrodisiacal. Its moisturizing, regenerating, antiseptic properties are recommended for dry skin.

Lemon, extracted from lemon peel, has a fresh citrus aroma. Its refreshing, antiseptic, astringent and toning qualities are recommended for normal to oily skin.

All three essential oils are recommended for normal skin types.

Why do I get irritations when I shave against the grain?

If you shave directly against the grain, the hair is long and facing downward. This creates a lot of resistance on the razor, which results in irritations.

Also, if you use foams, gels and mentholated shaving products, they will not soften and protect the beard sufficiently. Therefore, razor burns will occur.

Always shave with the direction of the hair first, than re-lather and shave gently against the grain. Never shave against the grain first.

What is the difference between our Shaving Soap and Shaving Cream?

The difference is that the Shaving Soap requires the use of a shaving brush, whereas the Shaving Cream can be used with or without a brush. Both offer a good lather and a great shave. Both are rich in moisture, so that they will not dry the skin.

Also, the Soap takes a bit more time than the Cream to lather up to a rich consistency. We find that Shaving Soaps appeal to a more traditional clientele who appreciate old-world charms.
